The Benny Boom-directed Tupac movie, All Eyez On Me, is currently in post-production, so hopefully it isn’t too long before we get an official trailer for the most highly-anticipated Hip Hop biopic since, well, 2015’s Straight Outta Compton. The movie stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac Shakur, and features Jamal Woolard reprising his role as the Notorious B.I.G. from the 2009 Biggie movie, Notorious.

Shipp Jr. re-enacts the heck out of Tupac’s infamous press conference outside of a courthouse in 1993, where he was standing trial for sexual assault charges. Joining Shipp Jr. will be The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira as Afeni ShakurDominic L. Santana as Suge Knight, and Stefon Washington as Puff Daddy. All Eyez On Me is scheduled to hit theaters later this year.

BBC Sitcom Citizen Khan Accused Of Stereotyping Muslims, Says MP.

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #BreakingNews #BBCNews #UK #EntertainmentNews  #Politics #BBCSitcom #CitizenKhan #Islamophobic #CommonsDebate

A BBC sitcom has been criticised as “Islamophobic” during a Commons debate about whether the BBC’s programmes and staff reflect UK diversity.

Labour’s Rupa Huq criticised Citizen Khan’s depiction of a “quite backward” family of Muslims.

The show was accused of stereotyping Muslims when it started in 2012 and its creator, Adil Ray, has told the Radio Times he had received death threats.

The BBC said the award-winning show had received much positive feedback.

But Ms Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, whose sister Konnie is a former Blue Peter presenter, said: “I feel as if I didn’t know what the year is … you would think it’s an everyday tale of a Birmingham family of Muslims but they’re really quite backward.

“Again, the Islamophobic point [Labour MP Chuka Umunna] made, it’s a beardy weirdy chap and they’re not quite cutting off people’s hands but I can imagine that being in a future episode.”

‘Comic creations’

Citizen Khan prompted complaints when it launched in 2012 and Mr Ray has previously said he had received abuse from people who believed it was making fun of Islam or stereotyping Muslims.

But the show has won various awards at the Royal Television Society and Asian Media Awards.

A BBC spokesman said: “The fact that Citizen Khan returns for its fifth series this year is a sign of its popularity with all audiences – indeed the show has won several awards, including Best TV character at the Asian Media Awards.

“We’ve also had positive comments from members of the Muslim community for the show and for creator Adil Ray who, like the family portrayed, is a British Pakistani Muslim. As with all sitcoms the characters are comic creations and not meant to be representative of the community as a whole.”

‘Invisible’

Ms Huq made her comments during a backbench debate called by former culture minister David Lammy.

Mr Lammy accused the BBC of hiring “the same old faces from the same old schools to the same old jobs” and said he had been contacted by black and Asian BBC staff who said “that they cannot speak up because they do not want to be labelled a troublemaker”.

He also said the Chinese community was “totally invisible” on the broadcaster and said the BBC’s new charter must address the lack of progress in boosting ethnic minority representation.

He said although the BBC ran 29 schemes aimed at ethnic minorities between 1999 and 2014, the situation was not improving and the proportion of ethnic minority staff had dropped from 13.1% in 2015 to 12.2% now.

The Labour MP for Tottenham praised the diversity of children’s television, BBC Three and documentaries but questioned whether there was sufficient diversity in management.

He said: “We all go into Broadcasting House and see the security, see black staff at the junior ends, but walk into that newsroom, think about the editorial decisions that are being made, and ask yourself, is that really representative of our country as a whole?”

Conservative MP Helen Grant suggested the BBC could voluntarily disclose data on the recruitment, retention, promotion and pay of staff from ethnic minorities.

Labour Sunderland Central MP Julie Elliott said the BBC should reflect every region in the UK, adding that Salford – where the BBC’s MediaCity UK is based – was “not where the North ends”.

Earlier, Mr Umunna attacked the “representation of our Muslim communities” on TV.

He said “rising Islamophobia” could partly be blamed on broadcasters’ use of “community leaders who purport to speak for that community but have no mandate whatsoever to do so”.

New Docuseries “Hard Evidence: O.J. Is Innocent,” A True-Crime Series Will Air On The Investigation Discovery Channel In 2017.

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #USA  #NewDocuSeries #InvestigationDiscoveryChannel #MurderInvestigation  #OJSimpson #NicholeBrown #RonGoldman #MartinSheen #2017

Fans of FX’s show “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson” can thank a former “president” for a new addition to what is becoming a catalog of content based on the now-iconic case.

“Hard Evidence: O.J. Is Innocent,” a true-crime docuseries, will be executive produced and narrated by Martin Sheen, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sheen, still be beloved for his portrayal of President Josiah “Jed” Bartlet on “The West Wing” from 1999-2006, can lend only his voice to the project because his Netflix contract for its series “Grace and Frankie” doesn’t allow him to appear elsewhere onscreen.

The new series will air on the Investigation Discovery channel and investigate claims that Simpson was responsible for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson was found innocent in the 1995 criminal trial but found liable in a civil case two years later.

“Hard Evidence” will offer an alternative theory and possible new evidence, based on decades of work by William C. Dear, a private investigator who wrote the 2012 book “O.J. Is Innocent and I Can Prove It.”

Sheen said the project will examine “What if there were enough evidence that proved O.J. Simpson did not murder his ex-wife Nicole or Ron Goldman? What if the real killer were still at large? And finally, what if a grand jury convened to reconsider the case based on new evidence?”

Dear, who met Sheen through his son Charlie Sheen, told The Hollywood Reporter that he is excited as to what the series might yield.

“I’m hoping that when we do this series, the evidence should be more than enough to get a grand jury indictment,” he said. “If I accomplish that, I will have accomplished a great deal in my life. I’ve done the best I can, and I’m excited about the fact that finally I can get it out there.”

“Hard Evidence” will air in 2017.

Did You Catch The Straight Outta Compton Cast’s Acceptance Speach, At The Mtv Movie Awards Last Night?

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #BreakingNews #HipHopDXNews #EntertainmentNews #Movies #MtvMusicAwards #LosAngeles #USA #StraightOuttaCompton #AcceptanceSpeach #IceCube

LOS ANGELES, CA – While Ice Cube consistently maintained the position that he did not care about Straight Outta Compton‘s recognition by the Oscar Awards, many cried snub when the historic film was only nominated for Original Screenplay.

At the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, which aired yesterday (April 10), the Straight Outta Compton cast mocked the Oscars in the acceptance speech for best True Story.

“I’d just like to take a moment to like thank the Academy,” Jason Mitchell, who portrayed the late Eazy-E in the film, says.

O’Shea Jackson Jr., who played the role of his father, Ice Cube, leans over and whispers in his ear.

“I mean MTV,” Mitchell says. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I’m sorry. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad.”

After the joke, Jackson takes a moment to reflect on the personal meaning of the film and how the bond between the group’s members serves as example for today’s youth.

“N.W.A, the Straight Outta Compton story is so much beyond music,” he says. “It really speaks to brotherhood. I want everybody in here when you leave here tonight, really look at the people who’s around you. Look at the friends that you surround yourself with because I know the people around me, they support me and they motivate me. If you’re not hanging out with people that motivate you or want you to be a better you, you’re not hanging out with the right people.”

The award was presented by Kendrick Lamar, who introduced the legendary rap group when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Friday (April 8).

DJ Yella accepted the award with the actors, including Corey Hawkins who played Dr. Dre,Aldis Hodge who played MC Ren and Neil Brown Jr. who played DJ Yella.

That was the movie’s only win, but Jackson was nominated for Breakthrough Performance and Straight Outta Compton was nominated for Movie of the Year.

Will Smith Receives Generation Award

Will Smith was honored with the Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards for his twenty-plus year career in television and movies. His tribute included The Lonely Island performing The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song and acknowledgement from Queen Latifah and Halle Berry.

In his speech, Smith jokes about the award being the “old man’s award” and recalls meeting a young fan who only knew who he was because of his son Jaden‘s role in Karate Kid. He then reflects on the purpose of his career.

“I’m humbled,” Smith says, “and I just want all of you to know that I’m dedicated to being a light in this world. There’s a lot of suffering. A lot of people are suffering in this world and when you see my material and when I present myself in public and what I’m trying to build with my family and friends, I just want all of you to know I’m dedicated ’til I die to light and to love.”

Disney Warned: Future Productions Could Be Made Elsewhere, If The State Of Georgia Enacts A “Anti-Gay Bill”

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #BreakingNews #EntertainmentNews #TheGuardian #DisneyPictures #Marvel #ReligiousLibertyBill #AntiGayBill

Legislation promoting “religious liberty” in the southern US state known as a film-making hub prompts Hollywood company to warn that future productions could be made elsewhere

Disney has threatened to boycott the state of Georgia if it enacts a “religious liberty” bill that would allow officials to refuse to preside over gay marriages.

The Hollywood entertainment giant said the legislation would prompt it and Marvel Studios, a Disney subsidiary, to stop making films in the southern state which has become a favoured production location thanks to generous tax incentives.

The move comes after the Georgia legislature passed a bill prohibiting state officials or pastors from being forced to perform or attend same-sex marriage ceremonies.

It would also allow religious or faith-based organisations to deny service or employment to individuals who violate the groups’ “sincerely held religious beliefs” – paving the way for discrimination in social service provision and jobs, gay rights campaigners says.

The controversial legislation has been passed to Nathan Deal, the state’s governor, who has until May 3 to decide whether to sign it into law”.

“Disney and Marvel are inclusive companies, and although we have had great experiences filming in Georgia, we will plan to take our business elsewhere should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law,” a Disney spokesman said on Wednesday.

“Georgia offers tax incentives for TV and film productions, and as a result, the entertainment industry has a huge economic footprint in the state,” Chad Griffin, the campaign’s president, told a fund-raising dinner in Los Angeles. “But if this bill is signed into law, your employees, your contractors — all those working on your production are at risk of state-sanctioned discrimination.

“We’re asking you to join us as we urge TV and film studios, directors and producers, to commit to locating no further productions in the state of Georgia if this bill becomes law.”

AMC’s The Walking Dead was shot in Georgia up to July 2015

The Motion Picture Association of America, representing the major Hollywood studios, has also spoken against the legislation, as has the National Football League, which has warned that it could scupper plans to stage the Super Bowl in Atlanta in 2018 or 2019.

Georgia’s attractive tax regulations have turned it into a film-making hub. Marvel is currently shooting Guardians of the Galaxy 2 at Pinewood Studios, near Atlanta, and made Captain America: Civil War there last year.

Some 248 films and TV series, including AMC’s The Walking Dead and Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, were produced in the state in the year up to July 2015. The productions resulted in an estimated US$1.7 billion (£1.2 billion) being spent on the local economy.

Companies with headquarters in the state, including Coca Cola, Home Depot and UPS, have also criticised the legislation.

The company’s intervention followed a plea from the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights activist group, for Hollywood studios to pull out of Georgia if the bill becomes law.

Is Al Sharpton’s Call For A “Tune Out”, The Cause For The Dramatic Fall In 2016 Oscars Viewer Ratings?

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #EntertainmentNews #Oscars2016 #OscarsRatings #TuneOut #LackOfDiversity #AlSharpton#LowAudienceRatings

The 2016 Academy Awards pulled in its smallest audience in eight years, according to US ratings data. Some 34.3 million Americans watched the ceremony – a near record low – amid the Hollywood diversity controversy.

The lower figures could reflect civil rights leader Al Sharpton’s call for a “tune out” to protest the absence of people of colour among the nominees.

“One would have to assume we were effective and part of the decline,” Sharpton said in a statement.

“And to those that mocked the idea of a tune out, it seems the joke was on them.”

It was the second straight year of all-white acting nominees, and black host, comedian Chris Rock, was quick to address the furore in his opening monologue which was generally well received.

The show also addressed issues of sexual assault, gay rights and environmentalism as ratings fell steadily throughout the broadcast’s last hour.

The statistics continue a trend seen with other live award shows, with this year’s Grammy Awards, Golden Globes, Emmy Awards and Tony Awards all showing ratings declines.

The Oscars were, however, a hit on social media, generating 24.2 millions tweets globally throughout the night, Twitter said.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s best actor win drew more than 440,000 tweets per minute, making it the most-tweeted minute of an Oscars telecast ever, according to Twitter.

On Facebook, 24 million people engaged in 67 million interactions related to the Oscars.

DiCaprio’s win was, once again, the most talked-about moment, Facebook said.
