Ben Stokes Requests to be Removed off the T20 World Cup Roster

England all-rounder Ben Stokes has made the decision to prioritize his fitness by requesting to be excluded from consideration for this summer’s T20 World Cup.

Stokes expresses his desire to utilize the break in order to become the versatile player he aspires to be in all formats.

During the winter, he underwent knee surgery which limited his bowling to just five overs in the recent five-Test series in India.

The 32-year-old has already chosen not to participate in the Indian Premier League, which started last month.

England, the reigning champions, will be participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to be held in the West Indies and United States in June.

Following the tournament, England will have a busy schedule with home Test series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka. In September, they will also face Australia in a T20 and one-day series.

Stokes expressed his hope that by choosing not to participate in the IPL and the World Cup, he will be able to fully focus on becoming the all-rounder he aspires to be in the coming years.

“The recent Test tour of India shed light on the significant gap in my bowling abilities following my knee surgery and extended break from bowling.”

“I can’t wait to take the field for Durham in the County Championship ahead of our Test summer.”
