Barcelona and Paris St-Germain declined to provide interviews to a television broadcaster following a contentious comment made about Lamine Yamal ahead of their Champions League match.
German Burgos, who works for Spanish TV station Movistar, was providing commentary while Barcelona winger Yamal showcased his impressive kick-ups.
Burgos allegedly commented that if things don’t go smoothly for him, he might find himself at a traffic light.
He expressed regret for the comment.
The comment, which has sparked speculation about its intended target, was made prior to Barcelona’s victory over PSG in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
“It was an unintentional comment that was not meant to cause harm to anyone. We only discuss football, nothing more. “If he felt offended, I am sorry and I apologise publicly,” stated Burgos.
Burgos, 54, has an impressive record with 35 caps for Argentina and a successful six-year stint in Spain with Mallorca and Atletico Madrid.
Movistar expressed their strong disapproval of the comments and stated that they will be implementing necessary actions to prevent any recurrence in the future.
Yamal, 16, was born in Spain to parents from Morocco and Equatorial Guinea.
The winger, who already has six caps for Spain, achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the youngest player to appear in a Champions League quarter-final during the victory in Paris.
