Ukraine war: a Drone Attack Damages a Russian Black Sea Fleet Ship, According to Kyiv

Reports indicate that a Russian patrol ship sustained damage following an assault by maritime drones in the Black Sea, as per Ukrainian intelligence.

Reportedly, the Sergei Kotov, launched in 2021, was struck in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to Ukraine’s military intelligence service, the Black Sea fleet ship sustained damage to the stern, right, and left sides.

No official statement has been released by the Kremlin yet.

The Sergei Kotov is one of four patrol ships completed for the Russian Navy’s Project 22160. Ukraine claims that the vessel was involved in the attack on Snake Island during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, along with the Moskva cruiser.

In 2022, Ukraine sank The Moskva.

Almost a decade ago, Russia took control of the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in a move that was deemed illegal. Lately, Ukraine has frequently targeted Russia’s Black Sea fleet based on the peninsula.

According to Ukraine, the sunken ship’s value was $65m (£51.2m), and it was struck near the Kerch Strait, dividing Crimea from Russia.

In the previous month, a Russian amphibious ship, the Caesar Kunikov, was sunk in a drone attack just south of the town of Yalta.

Ukraine’s intelligence directorate shared a video showing Magura V5 sea drones hitting the Caesar Kunikov.
