Stefano Cherchi: Canberra Jockey dies two Weeks Following Fall

Tragically, at the young age of 23, jockey Stefano Cherchi has passed away following injuries sustained in a recent fall.

An unfortunate incident occurred during a meeting in Canberra, Australia, where the Sardinian rider, who had previously ridden in Britain, took a fall.

His girlfriend Brittany, daughter of renowned former jockey Kieren Fallon, had made the journey to be by his side.

“It is with great sorrow that the Cherchi family has shared the news of their dear son Stefano’s peaceful passing today,” stated the New South Wales Jockeys Association.

“The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and messages from the racing community worldwide.”

An unfortunate incident occurred during a race at Canberra on 20 March, resulting in the rider being admitted to intensive care due to a serious head injury.

Cherchi’s horse Hasime was involved in an incident with two other horses.

Although the other two riders and all of the horses managed to escape unharmed, Cherchi received medical attention on the track for approximately an hour before being transported to the hospital due to a head injury and internal bleeding.

Cherchi, who had previously trained with Newmarket trainer Marco Botti, achieved great success in Britain with over 100 wins before moving to Australia earlier this year.

“Today is a truly devastating day for everyone, but Stefano will forever remain in our hearts.” “His captivating personality and infectious smile will always be remembered,” Botti remarked.

“Our condolences go out to the Cherchi family and those close to them.”
