Several prominent individuals have gathered in India’s Gujarat state to participate in a wedding celebration hosted by the wealthiest individual in Asia.
Mark Zuckerberg, Rihanna and Bill Gates are among the guests at the pre-wedding gala hosted by Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani for his son.
Anant Ambani, aged 28, will tie the knot with Radhika Merchant in July.
Popular Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are currently attending the three-day event in Jamnagar city.
At 66 years old, Mukesh Ambani is currently ranked as the 10th wealthiest individual globally, boasting a net worth of $115 billion as per Forbes. Reliance Industries, established by his father in 1966, is a vast conglomerate that operates in various sectors including refining, retail, financial services, and telecom.
Anant Ambani is the youngest of his three children, all of whom serve on the board of Reliance Industries. The individual, aged 28, is engaged in Reliance’s energy ventures and serves on the board of Reliance Foundation.
The lavish pre-wedding celebration aligns with the Ambani family’s tradition of throwing extravagant wedding festivities.
During 2018, Beyoncé gave a performance at the pre-wedding celebrations of Isha Ambani, daughter of Mr. Ambani, in Udaipur city. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, former Secretaries of State, were in attendance at the event.
According to a Bloomberg report, sources claimed Isha’s wedding cost $100m, but a person close to the family denied this, stating the bill was around $15m.
The ongoing celebrations began earlier this week with a gathering where the Ambani family provided meals to the community in Jamnagar.
Approximately 1,200 guests are present at the pre-wedding celebration, taking place in a township near Reliance’s primary oil refinery in Jamnagar.
According to Reuters, the guest list features Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Kumar Mangalam Birla. Disney CEO Bob Iger is anticipated to attend the event, following his company’s recent announcement of merging its India assets with Reliance.
During his Asia trip, Zuckerberg arrived in Jamnagar on Thursday. Bill Gates recently visited India and shared a video of himself enjoying tea made by a local vendor, which quickly gained popularity online.
Additional arrivals on Friday included cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo, as well as BP CEO Murray Auchincloss.
Additional attendees at the Ambani event are anticipated to include BlackRock co-founder Larry Fink, Alphabet chief executive Sundar Pichai, former Canadian PM Stephen Harper, former Australian PM Kevin Rudd, and Ivanka Trump.
“The guest list seems to have attracted more RSVPs from global corporate titans than the weddings of Mr Ambani’s two older children in 2018 and 2019, highlighting Reliance’s increasing influence and position as a gateway to the Indian economy for global tech, media, and energy giants,” as reported by Bloomberg.
Entertainment options include shows featuring Rihanna and illusionist David Blaine.
Visitors are also anticipated to tour a rescue centre in Jamnagar, said to house over 2,000 animals. As per a planning document viewed by Reuters, the attire specified for this visit is “jungle fever”.
