Tragic Suicide Bombing at Kandahar Bank in Afghanistan

According to a doctor at the regional hospital, a suicide bombing in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar has tragically resulted in the loss of at least 21 lives.



The Taliban government has reported a death toll of three. Authorities have reported that several individuals sustained injuries.
A suicide attack occurred at approximately 08:00 (03:30 GMT), according to the Taliban. The incident took place at a bank situated in the city center.
An unidentified group has not claimed responsibility for the attack, making it the largest one in Afghanistan so far this year.
An explosion occurred at a branch where Afghan government employees were waiting to collect their salaries.
According to a doctor from Mirwais hospital, the largest in the region, a number of individuals have sadly lost their lives and approximately 50 others have been injured. The doctor shared this information on the condition of anonymity.
Kandahar serves as the stronghold of the Taliban, housing their highest-ranking leader.

Despite some improvements in the security situation in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of foreign troops, the country still experiences a significant number of bombings and suicide attacks annually.
Several incidents have specifically impacted Afghanistan’s Hazara ethnic minority, with the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) claiming responsibility. ISKP is a regional affiliate of a well-known rival group, often referred to as the Islamic State.
