Putin to be Interviewed by Tucker Carlson

Tucker Carlson, the former host of a popular news programme, has announced that he has an upcoming interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, Carlson expressed his desire to conduct the interview because he believed it was important for Americans to be fully informed about a war they are involved in.

This would mark Mr Putin’s initial one-on-one interview with a Western journalist following his extensive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

No comment has been made by the Kremlin.

The 54-year-old’s visit to Moscow has garnered significant attention in Russian state media, with extensive coverage of his every move.

“There are potential drawbacks to conducting an interview of this nature, of course, so we have carefully considered it for several months,” Carlson stated in his announcement video.

He mentioned that ever since the conflict in Ukraine started, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky – whom he has previously criticised – has been interviewed multiple times by Western media.

However, according to Carlson, these sessions are more like enthusiastic gatherings designed to emphasise Mr. Zelensky’s desire for increased US involvement in the war.

“That is not objective reporting – it is biassed information.”

He mentioned that no Western journalist has taken the time to interview Vladimir Putin.

“We are gathered here not out of adoration for Vladimir Putin, but out of a deep love for the United States.”

The conservative journalist has consistently voiced support for Mr. Putin.

“Has Putin ever made any derogatory comments about me?” Is there a possibility that he might try to have me terminated if I express a difference of opinion with him? According to Carlson, Russian troops have begun to gather along Ukraine’s border. “These questions are valid, and the response to each of them is: No. Vladimir Putin denies any involvement in that.”

Following Russia’s invasion, his tone shifted slightly during a separate broadcast as he remarked, “Vladimir Putin initiated this conflict… He is responsible for what we are witnessing tonight in Ukraine.

The timing of the interview remains uncertain, but Carlson mentioned that it will be streamed live and without any edits on his X account. Elon Musk, the platform owner, has made a commitment to not suppress or block the interview.

Tucker Carlson, a former prominent cable TV host, unexpectedly departed from Fox News in the past year.

During his time at the US network, his shows often influenced the conservative agenda and, consequently, the Republican party.

He had a significant impact as the host of a late night political talk show from 2016 to 2023 and has now started a show on X.
