Afrobeats musician Davido Plans to Sue Over a Practical Joke about Kenya

After an April Fool’s joke went horribly wrong, Nigerian musician Davido has told his attorneys to file a lawsuit.

According to the hoax, the Afrobeats musician’s private plane was searched and cocaine was discovered, leading to his detention in Kenya.

The “extremely irresponsible” article was criticized by the 31-year-old, who had returned from a tour to East Africa.

“No one in any country has ever arrested me for a crime anywhere in the world,” he posted on social media.

“Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career,” he continued in his message on X, who was formerly Twitter.

An April Fool’s story, initially released by Kenya’s K24 TV on Monday, quickly spread like wildfire across social media.

The Nigerian megastar, fresh off his electrifying performances at the Timeless Concert in Kampala and Raha Fest in Nairobi, found himself inundated with a flurry of phone calls.

The backlash against the headline was so strong that Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took to Twitter to share a screenshot of it, clearly labeling it as “Fake News” on Monday morning.

“I want to reassure my fans that these reports are completely false. Davido shared that he has successfully finished his scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and has now returned home to Nigeria.

“I am deeply concerned about the false accusations being made, especially considering the timing of ‘April Fools’. My lawyer is taking action against the media outlets responsible for spreading this misinformation.”

K24 TV has yet to address Davido’s decision to pursue legal recourse.

Many Kenyans expressed their disapproval of the prank, while others took to social media to express their desire for a peaceful resolution to the situation.
