Microsoft was criticised for not including the feature when it launched its redesigned, minimalist web browser alongside Windows 10 last summer.
Adoption of the new web browser quickly plummeted, with the vast majority of Windows 10 users opting for Google’s own Chrome browser instead.
Microsoft briefly pushed out a new webpage which hints at the Microsoft Edge extensions
The US technology firm had hoped to push out extensions by the end of 2015, but this was later delayed until mid-2016.
Windows Insiders can preview three supported Edge extensions, including Microsoft Translator, Reddit Enhancement Suite and Mouse Gestures.
The ultimate goal for Microsoft is to roll-out Edge extensions via the unified Windows 10 Store.
One of the headline features in Microsoft Edge is the integration of voice assistant Cortana
Windows 10 is the Microsoft operating system with the fastest adoption rates, with some 200 million activations across the globe by December 2015.
Microsoft has previously stated an ambition to get one billion devices across the globe running Windows 10 within two years of the operating system’s release.
But the new OS has not been without issues.
Users have reported frustratingly slow boot-up speeds, troublesome wifi connections, fees for basic functionality included in earlier versions of Windows, privacy concerns and issues with child safety features following the jump to Windows 10.
