MARION RAMSEY, who is best known for her role in Police Academy, has died at the age of 73 after suffering a short illness.
Marion Ramsey, who rose to fame as an actress on Broadway and starred in Police Academy, has died at the age of 73. The star’s representative confirmed the tragic news.
Marion was best known for playing Officer Laverne Hooks in Police Academy.
The film was such a success that it spawned five sequels over the next five years with Marion appearing in the movies.
A cause of the actress’ death has not been confirmed but it has been reported the actress was suffering from an illness in recent days, and died at her Los Angeles home, according to Deadline.
Tributes have since poured in for the late actress, as many people offered their condolences.
One person penned: “That is very sad. She was awesome on the big screen. Much love Marion Ramsey.”
“Rest in Peace, Marion Ramsey, prayers to her family,” a second person commented.
A third wrote: “I am so sad to hear Marion Ramsey has died. I loved her as Hooks in the Police Academy movies, she was so sweet. She was fantastic.”
“Rest in power, Marion Ramsey. I grew up obsessed with the Police Academy movies. There were so many! #5 was my favorite because they filmed it in Miami Beach. Thank you for all the laughter,” another fan remarked.
Marion began her career on Broadway and subsequently toured in the productions of Hello, Dolly!
In 1974, she starred opposite Bette Davis in the musical Miss Moffatt – an adaption of Davis’ classic 1945 film The Corn Is Green.
Marion then went on to star in the hit 1978 Broadway show Eubie!
She later made her move to the small screen with guest appearances on TV sitcom The Jeffersons.
That same year she became a regular on the Bill Cosby-hosted sketch comedy series Cos.
Marion’s stand out role came in 1984 when she starred in the comedy film Police Academy – where she was known for her soft-spoken delivery.
The hit film was followed by five sequels over the next five years, with Ramsey appearing in all of them.
She briefly reprised the role in the 1993 comedy video John Virgo: Playing for Laughs and, as a voice actress, in a 2006 episode of the animated Robot Chicken.
Marion’s other television credits include The Addams Family, Modern Family, Beverly Hills, 90210, and MacGyver.
Her last known role was in Lavalantula, a TV thriller film.
Marion reunited with her Police Academy co-star Steve Guttenberg for the movie in 2015.
In addition to her acting roles, she was also a singer and songwriter.
Marion is survived by her three brothers.
