Inside El Chapo’s hellhole prison dubbed the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’ where he’ll be shut off from ALL contact with the outside world for the rest of his life

SERIAL escapee El Chapo — who has been convicted in the biggest drug trafficking trial of all time — is likely to be locked up in the “prison of all prisons”.

The fallen drugs kingpin is set to be caged for the rest of his life in a “supermax” prison which is so secure and so remote that it has been dubbed as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies”.

ADX Florence aka the Alcatraz of the Rockies has many wings

EL Chapo will today be coming to terms with what lies ahead

US Attorney Richard Donoghue said after yesterday’s guilty verdict, after the 11 week drug trafficking trial, that El Chapowas staring at “a sentence from which there is no escape and no return”.

Located outside an old mining town about two hours south of Denver, ADX Florence houses the nation’s most violent offenders.

Burl Cain, a former maximum-security warden said: “It’s the prison of all prisons.

“If ever there were an escape-proof prison, it’s the facility at Florence.”

DENIED HUMAN CONTACT

Many of its 400 inmates are held alone for 23 hours a day in 7-by-12-foot cells with fixed furnishings made of reinforced concrete.

An Amnesty International report found prisoners spend years in solitary confinement and often go days “with only a few words spoken to them”.

One former inmate, in an interview with The Boston Globe, described the lockup as a “hi-tech version of hell, designed to shut down all sensory perception”.

Most are given a TV, but their only actual view of the outside world is a 4-inch window.

Human interaction is virtually non-existent.

Meals are eaten in the solitude of their own cells, within feet of their toilets.

Outside razor-wire fences, gun towers, armed patrols and attack dogs make escape attempts futile.

Should a prisoner escape, the remote area means they can be located very quickly.

It houses some of the most notorious criminals to set foot in an American courtroom.

NOTORIOUS INMATES

Terrorist Ted Kaczynski, Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and Oklahoma City bombing accomplice Terry Nichols are among those who call it home.

But El Chapo, the most prolific narco in history, is set to be the most notorious should he be sent here after he is sentenced in June.

His rep has been gained not just for smuggling enormous amounts of narcotics into the US and having a hand in dozens upon dozens of murders, but also for breaking out of jail.
