Benjamin Mendy, a former Manchester City player, was cleared of all rape and attempted rape charges.
The professional footballer from France was charged with raping a 24-year-old woman in a bedroom at his lavish Cheshire property in October 2020.
In addition, he was accused of attempting to rape a 29-year-old woman at his house two years prior.

Following the verdict, the football player was “absolutely in tears,” according to Sky News correspondent Inzamam Rashid, and “came out of the court hugging his friends who were here to support him.”
The jury’s deliberation was brief. This morning at 10.40am, they were dispatched.
Mendy “would like to thank the members of the jury for focusing on the evidence in this trial rather than on rumor and innuendo that have followed this case,” his attorneys said in a statement read outside court.
They claimed that although Mendy has stayed resilient for nearly three years since the police started looking into claims against him, the investigation has “inevitably had a serious impact on him.”

The player was cleared of several sexual offenses against women earlier this year, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the remaining two allegations.

Prosecutors said that while Mendy was still employed by Manchester City, he would host events at his £4.2 million mansion, The Spinney.
Mendy had reportedly met a British student in a Barcelona nightclub in 2017. She grew close to one of Mendy’s friends and planned to pay him a visit at the footballer’s house the following year.
She claimed that Mendy tried to rape her after a night out.
However, the football player admitted to the jury: “I asked her if we could have sex. Due to my friend, she said, “No.”
“I told them, ‘It’s fine, my friend thinks it’s OK, so if you want, he’s cool with it. That’s when she first became agitated and depressed. I just left the room.
Two years later, a woman and her pals were out at a club close to Mendy’s house when they received an invitation to return to the football player’s home.
She claimed that he escorted her to a locked bedroom after taking her phone. When she went to recover the phone that Mendy had thrown on the bed, Mendy is accused of raping her.
Mendy claimed that after their consensual sexual experience, the two exchanged information on Snapchat.
He was questioned about whether he had restrained her or coerced her into the bed. He said, “No.”
I will never compel a lady to have sex with me, he assured the jurors.
Mendy was acquired by City for £52 million from Monaco in 2017, becoming him the most expensive defender in the world.
He was a member of France’s World Cup-winning team in 2018 and won three Premier League championships with City.
When his contract with the team expired at the end of June, he was let go.
