“Love the Way You Lie” is a song recorded by American rapper Eminem for his 2010 studio album Recovery. It was the second single from the album, released by Interscope-Geffen-A&M on August 9, 2010. It was inspired by American songwriter Skylar Grey‘s idea of being in an abusive romantic relationship with the music industry. After Eminem heard the demo track, recorded by Grey and British producer Alex da Kid, he wrote the lyrics and asked Barbadian singer Rihanna to sing the chorus. The recording sessions were held at Effigy Studios in Ferndale, Michigan, and Sun Studios in Dublin.
