Six-wheeled delivery robots which trundle along at 4mph will soon be used to deliver meals to homes around London.

The self-driving robots can navigate through city streets using a GPS tracker coupled with on-board cameras and sensors.

When the robot arrives at its destination, the customer has to type in a code that has been sent to them.

This lets them open the robot’s lid to collect their food.

So far, 30 robots have travelled 5,000 miles during tests in Greenwich, Milton Keynes and Glastonbury.

The customer has to key in a code to retrieve their food

Now food delivery firm Just Eat plans to start using them to deliver food to homes in London later this month.

Allan Martinson, the chief operating officer of developer Starship Technologies, said: “We haven’t lost a single robot in eight months, or been involved in any accidents that resulted in loss or injury.”

He said most people who’ve spotted them in the street are unfazed, but kids “love it”.

“We’ve seen them try to chase it, hug it. One person tried to feed it a banana.”

To prevent theft and other interference, it is fitted with a movement sensor that sends an alert if it is lifted off the ground.

It also has nine cameras and two-way audio to a control room, from which humans oversee the robot army.

It is cheaper than regular delivery – costing around £1 to transport goods within a 3 mile radius.

Just Eat chief executive David Buttress said: “In busy times there’s a shortage of supply drivers. These will enable restaurants to meet the demand.”

Law Firms Hire Artificial Intelligence Robots To Assist In The Handling Of Unstructured Data

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #Technology #USA #ArtificialTechnologyAssistants #LawFirms #RAVNSystems #BLP #RealEstate #Finance

LONald the robot extracts data from documents and enters it into a spreadsheet in a fraction of the time it takes humans.

Law firms are embracing artificial intelligence (AI) in a bid to improve efficiency.

Developed in conjunction with tech start-up RAVN, BLP’s ‘contract robot’ can complete legal work which would take a team of paralegals and associates months to do within seconds.

It is currently assisting the firm’s real estate team.

Called LONald, the robot extracts data from Land Registry documents and enters it into a spreadsheet in the same way staff would do.

It cross-checks data points to remove duplicates and then uses the spreadsheet to send queries out.

For example, it can send an enquiry to Companies House to check if the address in the document matches the company number.

If the address is out of date, the robot will flag it for review.

The team will then consider all flagged documents in one go at the review stage.

Victoria Blanchard, consultant at BLP said: “It converts unstructured data (e.g. contracts, official copies) into structured output (e.g. a spreadsheet), in a fraction of the time it takes a human (a few seconds) and with a higher degree of accuracy.

“The lawyers then do the higher level strategic review to make sure nothing is missed,” she said.

Peter Wallqvist, managing director at RAVN Systems, said the use cases are unlimited: “In addition to law firms implementing a variety of automated review processes, RAVN is working with organisations from the media, telecoms, professional services and financial services sectors to revolutionise their handling of unstructured data.

“Use cases include automated due diligence, document review, contract assurance, governance and financial instrument processing,” he said.

Linklaters and Pinsent Masons are also investing in AI to help automate mundane tasks usually preserved for more junior lawyers.

WhatsApp Extends End-To-End Encryption To All Services, To Boost User Security.

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #BreakingNews #SkyNews #Technology #Facebook #Whatsapp #EndToEndEncryptionExtended #UserSecurity

WhatsApp has applied “end-to-end” encryption to all its services to boost user security.

The Facebook-owned messaging service announced the move amid fierce debate surrounding privacy versus security.

It follows Apple’s battle with the US government over FBI demands for data on an iPhone – used by a gunman in California – to be unlocked.

End-to-end encryption automatically encodes each message with an algorithm that can only be unlocked by the sender and recipient.

WhatsApp said: “The idea is simple: when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to.

“No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us. End-to-end encryption helps make communication via WhatsApp private – sort of like a face-to-face conversation.”

WhatsApp, which has more than one billion users globally, added they must download the latest version of the app for full encryption, and that it works across all major devices.

It is the biggest major network to offer it – with less popular services such as Wickr, Telegram and Signal also deploying full encryption.

Google, Facebook and Yahoo use less extensive encryption to protect emails and messages while they’re in transit but retain the ability to scan messages.

Apple uses end-to-end encryption for its iMessage service but some experts told the AP news agency that WhatsApp’s method may be more secure because it provides a security code that senders and recipients can use to verify a message came from someone they know – and not from a hacker posing as a friend.

Microsoft Is About To Solve One Of The Biggest Problems For Its Minimalist New Windows 10 Web Browser – Extensions.

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #BreakingNews #ExpressNews #Technology #Microsoft #Windows10

The functionality will finally let users to install third-party add-ons to their web browser – like The Great Suspender, ad-blockers, or read-later clients including Pocket or Instapaper.

Microsoft was criticised for not including the feature when it launched its redesigned, minimalist web browser alongside Windows 10 last summer.

Adoption of the new web browser quickly plummeted, with the vast majority of Windows 10 users opting for Google’s own Chrome browser instead.

Microsoft briefly pushed out a new webpage which hints at the Microsoft Edge extensions

According to an official preview page (which has since been pulled by Microsoft, but is cached here) the requested functionality is expected to be bundled alongside the next version of Windows 10, codenamed RedStone.

The US technology firm had hoped to push out extensions by the end of 2015, but this was later delayed until mid-2016.

Windows Insiders can preview three supported Edge extensions, including Microsoft Translator, Reddit Enhancement Suite and Mouse Gestures.

The ultimate goal for Microsoft is to roll-out Edge extensions via the unified Windows 10 Store.

The news comes after delays hit the next blockbuster update for Windows 10, codenamed RedStone.

Windows 10 is the Microsoft operating system with the fastest adoption rates, with some 200 million activations across the globe by December 2015.

Microsoft has previously stated an ambition to get one billion devices across the globe running Windows 10 within two years of the operating system’s release.

Express.co.uk was impressed with the new operating system, in our review we said it marked “a brilliant start to the next chapter for Microsoft Windows.”

But the new OS has not been without issues.

Users have reported frustratingly slow boot-up speedstroublesome wifi connectionsfees for basic functionality included in earlier versions of Windowsprivacy concerns and issues with child safety features following the jump to Windows 10.

Apple To Launch New Four Inch Iphone SE, On 21st Of March 2016

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #Technology #Apple  #NewAppleIphone #IphoneSE #SmartPhone #PoweredByA9Chip #Launch21March2016

APPLE is expected to announce its new four-inch iPhone SE in the next few weeks – and the new smartphone could send existing prices tumbling.

With its flagship smartphones starting at £539, Apple’s best-selling iPhone certainly isn’t cheap – but that could be about to change.

But following Apple’s next major product launch, that could all change.

Apple is expected to introduce a new iPhone on March 21st, dubbed iPhone SE.

The new four-inch handset will have a similar design to the iPhone 5S, but is rumoured to be powered by an A9 chip.

It will also feature NFC support, so it can handle contactless payments via Apple Pay.

Apple is also expected to include a 12-megapixel rear camera with Live Photos. There’s also 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and a 1,642 mAh battery rumoured.

Following the launch of this new four-inch iPhone, which will appeal to those put-off by the 4.7inch and 5.5inch form factor of Apple’s latest flagship devices, the US technology firm will drop the price of the iPhone 5S.

In fact, technology analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes the iPhone 5S will be cut to a staggering $225, some £160 converted.

iPhone SE will look more like the iPhone 5S than its successor, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S

If his prediction is right, the iPhone 5S – the flagship device when it was launched back in September 2013 – will become the cheapest iPhone yet.

At the time of writing, the cheapest iPhone available from Apple online and retail stores starts at £379.

Alongside the new iPhone SE, Apple is expected to announce a refresh to the iPad Air 2.

Apple did not update the iPad Air 2 when it refreshed the iPad Mini and introduced its large-screen, productivity-focused iPad Pro during its event in September 2015.

Wireless brainwave headset and a brain sensor that dissolves in the body after completing its job.

#WeGotYourBack #WeGotItCovered #NewTechnology #CommunicatingThroughThoughts #WirelessHeadset

In the not-too-distant future, we could be communicating with our computers — and each other — using only our thoughts.

Scientists are already working on technology that connects the brain to electronic gadgets and two new devices unveiled this week could help usher in a future without keyboards

Rats can read the thoughts of other rats! A landmark study has shown that through a brain to brain interface, rats are able to to connect and communicate with one another. Trace has all the exciting details on what this “mind meld” could mean for us!

At the University of California San Diego, bioengineering professor Gert Cauwenberghs and his team came up with an easy way to monitor the brain. They have built the first portable, 64-channel wearable brain activity monitoring system that’s comparable to state-of-the-art equipment found in research laboratories.

Cauwenberghs says the idea is to allow scientists and doctors to check brain function or activity without implanting electrodes.

“There has been much progress in brain stimulation, but it’s very invasive,” he said. With our device, you just place it on your head.”

This lower-resolution device is easier to put on but can still read brainwaves just by attacking to the hair.

The device was described in a study published in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering.

The group behind the wireless EEG monitor says their neuroimaging systems could someday work with mobile sensors and smartphones to track brain states throughout the day, perhaps even boost the brain’s capabilities.

“This is going to take neuroimaging to the next level by deploying on a much larger scale,” said Mike Yu Chi, a UCSD Jacobs School alumnus and chief technology officer of the startup firm Cognionics who led the team that developed the headset used in the study. “You will be able to work in subjects’ homes. You can put this on someone driving.”
