BOKO HARAM takes responsibility for kidnapping schoolboys in Nigeria

Pamela T Munyoro.

Nigerian armed group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of more than 333 students from a secondary school attacked last Friday in Katsina state, northwest Nigeria.

“I am Abubakar Shekau and our brothers are behind the kidnapping in Katsina…,
What happened in Katsina was done to promote Islam and discourage non-Islamic practices, as Western education is not the kind of education allowed by Allah and His Holy Prophet,” said the leader of the group in a voice message.
More than 333 boys are still missing, following the attack that happened last Friday in Katsina state.

A number of boys were able to escape, but many were captured, split into groups and taken away with no clue of who would have taken them, but Tuesday’s claim of responsibility marks a major turning point as the officials now know who they are dealing with.

A similar incident like this one happened back in 2014 when Boko Haram kidnapped more than 250 children from a boarding school in Chibok, northeast Nigeria.

In the meantime, no demands have been made or conditions set for the release of the students.
Guardians are waiting patiently for the return of their boys and all over social media a hashtag is circulating demanding the return of these boys, #BringBackOurBoys.
